Giveaway #6
Gardening When It Counts
(three winners)

This is, without a doubt, my favorite gardening book. I'm giving away three copies of  Gardening When It Counts to three fortunate people in this contest.

The only problem with the book is the title. It suggests that the book is a gardening book for preppers. Well, if you're a prepper, you'll definitely want a copy of this book. But if you're just a regular ol' gardener like me (or a beginning gardener) you're also want a copy of this book. It's a practical, informative gardening book for any kind of vegetable gardener.

Giveaway #5
Two Gardening Books By
David The Good
(three winners)

I "met" David the Good a few years ago when he bought a Planet Whizbang Wheel Hoe kit from me and then posted a review of it to his popular blog, The Survival Gardener

Since then, David has also reviewed my Classic American Clothespins (be sure to read the comments to that review if you go there), and he put my Planet Whizbang Idea Book For Gardeners on his list of Best Gardening Books

I have, of course, reciprocated by mentioning David and his blog at my own blog, The Deliberate Agrarian, several times.

And now... It is my pleasure to offer not one, but TWO of David's gardening books here in Planet Whizbang Giveaway #5. Three winners will be chosen at random by Rafflecopter at the conclusion of this two-week contest. Each winner will receive the two books pictured above.

As for the content and quality of these gardening books, you can read all about them (along with all the customer reviews) at the following Amazon links...

Giveaway #4
How To Grow
World Record Tomatoes
(three winners)

Don't let the title of this book mislead you. It's about more than just growing enormous tomato plants and fruits. Here's what the book says of itself on the back cover...

Charles Wilber was a man on a mission, dedicating his entire life to studying nature. And he spent most of his 90+ years learning how to coax the maximum production from her bounty. He started by emulating the conditions of the forest floor—the same forest where the giant sequoia grow. Then he added in good gardening techniques. The results were simply amazing.

In this almost unbelievable book he tells his personal story and his philosophy and approach to gardening. He reveals for the first time how he grew record-breaking tomatoes and produce of every variety.

Whether your interest is to win blue-ribbons, profit from market gardening, or feed the world, you'll never look at gardening the same. And you'll have tons of tomatoes too!

Charles Wilber's Preface to the book, and his life story, really intrigued me when I started reading this book. Then it got even more interesting when I read about the nuts and bolts of his growing techniques. Here's Mr. Wilber's simple Preface...

I have used the term dominion as expressed in the Good Book. I take dominion to mean stewardship, not domination. Too many people think the imperative to increase and multiply and exercise dominion over the plants and animals of the earth means to squander, rape and destroy. That is not my perception. Stewardship means conservation and careful nuturing. That's what I do with my tomato plants. I nurture them—and nature always rewards those who nurture her carefully.
I happen to share Mr. Wilbur's respect for the Bible and his proper understanding of the "dominion mandate."

Regardless of your own philosophical underpinnings, if you garden, I'm pretty sure you will be inspired by Charles Wilber's personal story and his "All-Organic" growing techniques.

Giveaway #3
Mother Earth News Almanac
The New Edition!
(three winners)

Forty-two years ago I bought a copy of The Mother Earth News Almanac in a bookstore, and it changed my life. I've written about it in This Blog Post.

I recently discovered that the Mother Earth News Almanac has  been republished (February of 2016), and I think it is perfect for this Planet Whizbang Giveaway #3 contest.

The new version of the Almanac is not exactly like the old one, but it's almost the same. The book is loaded with all kinds of interesting and useful information for down-to-earth people. If you fall into that category, I guarantee that you'll love this book.

If you're a teenager, this book might just resonate with you and help to chart a course for your life... kind of like it did for me. Hey, you never know.

Giveaway #2
The Market Gardener's Toolkit

Back in February of 2014 I received a review copy of The Market Gardener by Jean-Martin Fortier. The book tells how Jean-Martin and his wife make a remarkably good income with a 1.5 acre market garden in Quebec, Canada. There aren't too many people in the world who make a remarkably good income from "farming" 1.5 acres!

Though I am not a market gardener, and I do not aspire to be a market gardener, I was inspired in my home gardening pursuits by the book. And I wasted no time in reviewing it. I think my review was the first internet review in the U.S. (the book was previously published in French for the Canadian market) and it is among my most read blog posts. You can read the review here: Farming 1.5 Acrres And Making a Good Living.

After reading the book, I've often thought it would be nice to see and learn more about Jean-Martin's approach to making a living on such a small section of land. So it was exciting to find out about the new documentary movie: The Market Gardener's Toolkit.

I bought a copy of the movie. I watched it. I enjoyed it. And I've decided that it would make for a great Planet Whizbang Giveaway....

There will be three winners in this giveaway. Each winner will receive a DVD copy of The Market Gardener's Toolkit.

If you have ever thought of making a living (or part of a living) by market gardening, or you know someone else who has this dream, you need to enter this giveaway for sure. And if you are just a person who loves to grow your own food, I believe you will also enjoy this documentary.  Either way, you will come away from the film with a realization and appreciation for how much work goes into such an enterprise.

Check out this trailer for the film...

Giveaway #1
Planet Whizbang Pocket Cultivators

The very first Planet Whizbang Giveaway is for four homemade Whizbang pocket cultivators, an example of which you can see in the picture above. If you are a gardener, you will love this handy little implement. It's ideal for light cultivating.

Four winners will each receive one pocket cultivator.

Some people, upon seeing the Whizbang pocket cultivator, are underwhelmed... "It's just a fork!"

Oh, but it is NOT just a fork, my gardening friends. It was just a fork, but not any more. The original length of the former fork has been shortened and a comfortable bulbous end has been created. Then it was double-dipped in liquid rubber.

Without the bulbous end, the fork would soon give the palm of your hand a blister. The swollen end also makes for a more ergonomic handhold.

Besides that, the forks used to make these pocket cultivators were carefully selected for their strength from a large antique store assortment. Most forks are wimpy and will bend easily. These forks will not bend easily. However, keep in mind that they are for light cultivating. If you dig dandelions with them, they will bend.

This nifty Whizbang pocket cultivator idea can be found on page 69 of The Planet Whizbang Idea Book For Gardeners.
